  2. Marcia, I see parallels between athletics and the music business. People often view seriousness about artistic endeavors as hobby and lark, not as vocation and career. For many a fan, whether of arts and athletics, the support is black and white–good job! go team–while for the actual athletes and artists, it’s a much more complex endeavor, and all about keeping the faith and calm in the midst of sometimes, absolute chaos.

Thank you for this blog and the wisdom. Shining a light on all things: I believe this is an important time in our culture and our spiritual walks, on a mass scale, to speak truth to power, to admit there is darkness, and to move forward redemptively.

Thank you, Lyn. I think you are right on. And in some ways music and football along with other parts of our popular culture get labeled at entertainment. While John was in the NFL people often told us that’s what professional football really is: entertainment, show business. I like the way you point us toward the complexity of the skill/art/precision/hard work that it takes to be great at any of these endeavors. Keeping the faith and keeping focused are challenging things to do sometimes. Thank you for being a part of this conversation. I hope you’ll keep reading!
